Egypt international Mostafa Fathi was excluded from the Pharaohs’ squad for their double header against Uganda in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The Al Taawoun midfielder was among 15 foreign-based players called up by Egypt coach Hector Cuper for the upcoming fixtures.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) however announced on Sunday that the 23-year-old player was ruled out of the Pharaohs’ games against the Cranes through injury.

The Pharaohs will face Uganda on August 31 in Kampala before hosting them at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on September 5.

Egypt currently top Group E in the African qualifiers with six points, two points above second-placed Uganda, while Ghana sit third with only one point and Congo languish at the bottom of the group with 0 points.

The Egyptian winger had joined the Saudi Arabian side from Cairo giants Zamalek on a one-year loan deal in the 2017 summer transfer window. He already scored twice for Al Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League.
