Bechem United defeated Accra Great Olympics 1-0 thanks to a first half strike from main man Amed Toure and this result means the two-time Ghana champions are relegated to the Division One.
Toure – who has finished the season with 13 goals – gave the home team the much needed breakthrough and it did not take long for the Burkina international to do so.
The former Asante Kotoko striker – widely expected to be on his way back to Kumasi – broke free from his marker Asiamah Badu on the right and sent in a powerful right-footed shot from that tight angle as goalkeeper Michael Sai was incapable of stopping the ball from going in. The goal was timed at the 3rd minute.
After three minutes goalkeeper Michael Sai was still staring at the deadly goalscorer wondering how he managed to breach his goal from that angle.
Bechem United needed to win to avoid a possible drop to the second tier and the desire and intensity of their game was evident from the first time referee Justice Adu Poku whistled to start the Week-30 game.
Olympics , in the last few minutes of the game , thought they had equalized from a corner kick effort but referee Adu Poku had already whistled for a foul against the Accra-based side before the ball was kicked into the Bechem goal net.
Toure ended the season as Bechem United highest goalscorer with 13 goals in 22 games including 2 penalties as he helped his side to finish 12th on the league table published by the GFA on Sunday evening.
