CAF to change their schedule for continental club competitions to go with those in Europe but that is not the main reason for the change.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) are set to change schedule to be in line with the two major continental club competitions CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.
The change in schedule will be in line of with that of their European equivalents UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
The CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup have schedules which has these tournaments running from February to November in the same calendar year.
Now, the year 2018 will have the tournament take the old format where the tournament will run from 9th February 2018 to 11 November 2018.

Immediately after that new editions of the various tournaments will then start from December 2018 to eventually end in May 2019.
The reasons for this change include the synchronizing of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup with 75% of the league formats played across Africa.

More importantly, the change is ahead of the shift of dates for the African Cup of Nations from January/February to June/July which takes effect from 2019.
Aduana Stars are to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League as they go out to face Libyan side AL-Tahady. Kumasi Asante Kotoko will also face Congolese Club Athlétique Renaissance Algion in the CAF Confederations Club.
