Real Madrid have had their ban on signing players reduced to one transfer window following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas). The Spanish side had originally been barred from signing players for two windows by world governing body Fifa. They remain banned from registering new players this January but will now be able to make signings next summer. The club have also had their fine reduced from 360,000 Swiss francs (£282,000) to Sfr 240,000 (£188,000). Antoine Griezmann (25) has been voted French Player of the Year 2016, announced Monday by the weekly France Football . The Atlético de Madrid player, who succeeds the Parisian Blaise Matuidi, is the 59th winner of this individual award awarded by a jury composed mainly of former winners. Griezmann, the unfortunate finalist of the Champions League and the Euro (of which he was the best player and top scorer), finished third at the 2016 Golden Ball on Monday, behind Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) and Argentinian Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona).

FIFA have issued fines to the English FA and Scottish FA for both countries’ decision to disobey the world governing body’s orders and wear poppies on their shirts during the international meeting between the two country’s on Remembrance Day, last month. Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has been charged by the Football Association for alleged insulting and/or threatening behaviour in the draw at Ipswich. The 31-year-old has already received a two-game ban for his red card – and now faces more matches on the sidelines.
