Manchester United were outclassed as Spanish and European champions Real Madrid retained the Uefa Super Cup victory in a sweltering Skopje. Madrid dominated from the start and led when Casemiro – who earlier hit the bar – slid in a half volley. Romelu Lukaku scored a consolation for United but goals from Casemiro and Isco did the damage for last season’s Champions League winners in an entertaining final in Skopje. They doubled their lead when Isco calmly slotted in from eight yards after a neat one-two with Gareth Bale, who started ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. New £75m striker Romelu Lukaku…

Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) boss Ángel María Villar has resigned from his vice-president roles at FIFA and UEFA after his arrest as part of an anti-corruption investigation. The news was confirmed today by UEFA, European football’s governing body. It comes after sixty-seven-year-old Villar was suspended yesterday by Spain’s Government, following his arrest. He denies any wrongdoing but has been remanded in custody while an investigation continues. “Villar will no longer have any official functions at our organisation,” a UEFA spokesman said. “In view of the ongoing court proceedings in Spain, we have no further comments to make on this matter.”…

Former Black Stars midfielder Annan played full 90 minutes while Mensah failed to hit the back of the net  after coming on in the 86th minute. HJK will face either Dacia or Shkendija in the next stage.

Germany shocked Spain to win the Euro 2017 title as Mitchell Weiser’s header clinched glory. Hertha Berlin wideman Weiser’s 40th-minute winner gave Germany a deserved 1-0 victory in Friday’s final in Krakow. Disappointing Spain were chasing a record-equalling fifth title but rarely looked like winning their third crown in four tournaments. Five-goal top scorer Saul Niguez and Real Madrid wonderkid Marco Asensio barely made an impact as Germany, who beat England in the semifinals, shut them out. Max Meyer hit the post for Germany early on and the best Spain could muster was when Saul’s drive was turned away by…

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed he had become the father of two more children during the Confederations Cup. Portugal were eliminated from the tournament on Wednesday, suffering a 3-0 penalty shoot-out loss to Chile after a 0-0 draw in Russia. Ronaldo was left disappointed by his side’s exit, appearing to confirm the birth of his two boys and that he would miss the third place play-off on Sunday. However, Portuguese media outlet SIC claim that he’s had a son and a daughter, named Mateo and Eva. “I was in the service of the national team, as always, body and…

Paris Saint-Germain forward Angel Di Maria has been given a suspended one-year jail sentence and fined £1.76m for tax fraud in Spain. Di Maria admitted two counts of tax fraud totalling £1.16m during his four-year spell with Real Madrid between 2010 and 2014, related to his image rights. The 29-year-old made a deal with Spanish tax authorities to avoid a trial, with each of the two counts coming with a six-month sentence. But he will almost certainly not spend any time behind bars as sentences of under two years in Spain are suspended providing the convicted person has no criminal…

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale said it was “a dream come true” to win the Champions League in his home city. Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace helped Real Madrid retain the Champions League in surprisingly comprehensive fashion, wrapping up a historic 12th continental crown by overcoming Juventus 4-1 in a memorable Cardiff showdown. Juventus started the brighter and Mario Mandzukic’s overhead kick will live long in the memory, but Ronaldo’s brace along with efforts from Casemiro and Marco Asensio left Real celebrating a comfortable 4-1 win. “To win at home is a dream come true,” Bale told BT Sport 2. “It’s been a…

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as holders Real Madrid were crowned champions of Europe for a record 12th time after outclassing 10-man  Kwadwo Asamoah’s side Juventus in a high-quality Champions League final in Cardiff. Asamoah could not become the sixth Ghanaian player to win the Champions league title after Abedi Pele, Ibrahim Tanko, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari. Ronaldo put Real ahead with a first-time finish from 16 yards before Mario Mandzukic equalised from just inside the area with a sensational overhead kick beyond Keylor Navas.
