Asante Kotoko are through to round 32 of the MTN FA Cup after beating lower tier side Bekwai Youth Academy 3-1 on penalties on Sunday afternoon.
Kotoko had to rely on their experience to register superiority over troublesome Bekwai Youth Football Academy despite a 1-1 90 minutes of thrilling football at the Bekwai Gyamfi Park.
Thomas Jawu cancelled the Porcupine Warriors 47th minute goal by striker Kwame Boateng.
Michael Akufo could have shot the Porcupine Warriors in front on the 25th minute after he bloated away an advantageous free kick awarded his side.
Kotoko after pressing forward for the lead were once again awarded a freekick, this time from the left side of attack but Kwame Boateng could not shoot it brilliantly to give Kotoko their awaited lead.
The host Bekwai Youth Football Academy created no decent chances in the first half following an impressive defensive partnership between Ahmed Adams and Awal Mohammed.
Back from recess, the Fabulous boys started pushing more men forward leading to Kwame Boateng’s 47Th minute strike.
Coach Frimpong Manso in his quest for more goals brought on Frank Sarfo Gyamfi to replace Kwame Boahene just five minutes after breaking the deadlock.
BYF’s Isaac Mintah picked a ball from the middle, dribbled it past two defenders to strike powerfully to equalise only for his goal to be disallowed by referee Amofa Sarkodie and his two deputies.
Nonetheless, the host were not dejected but gathered themselves well and came back strongly to pall parity on stoppage time.
Obed Owusu was however introduced into the game to replace striker Abass Mohammed.
Baba Mahama was substituted for Isaac Quansah in the 86th minute.
