Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Ibrahim Sannie Daara has revealed that the defeat of long serving CAF President Alhaji Issa Hayatou in Thursday’s election in Addis Ababa was orchestrated in Ghana.
According to him, that was one of the main reasons behind the visit of FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s visit to Ghana last month. Speaking to Asempa FM in Accra on Friday, Sannie Daara noted that it is not for nothing that several Football Federation Presidents on the continent came to Ghana to meet with the FIFA top man during his visit to the West African nation.
He added that GFA President Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, despite been regarded by many as an ally to Alhaji Hayatou was routing behind the candidature of eventual winner Ahmad Ahmad but it was pointless making his stance public for fear of victimization.
Ahmad Ahmad beat incumbent and long serving CAF President Issa Hayatou by 34 votes to 20 from the confederations 54-member federations to become Africa’s most powerful football person for the next four years. Mr. Nyantakyi also secured another 4-year mandate to serve on FIFA’s counsel after beating Tanzania’s Leodegar Tenga by 33 votes to 20.
