Former Ghana premier league golden boot winner Nana Poku has made an astonishing revelation that he received Eighty Ghana Cedis (80 GHC) as monthly salary when he played for Berekum Arsenal in the Ghana premier league between 2009 and 2011.
“I was taking 80 GHC a month as my pay and with even that the payment could delay up to three months and you get a month’s pay. It was difficult but I wasn’t bothered much because I knew what I was working for. I knew what I wanted to achieve and kept on doing my job very well. So that was my motivation” Nana Poku revealed on Metro FM’s Matured and Academic Sports on Friday.
The prolific striker now on the books on Egyptian side El Makasa still ended the 2010/11 Ghana league season as the best scorer with 16 goals despite taking home the meager 80 GH Cedis a month pay.
Appearing at the 2014 Brazil presidential commission of Inquiry sitting last two years, bank-roller of Kumasi-based King Faisal Alhaji Karim Grusah made a similar shocking admission that some of his players receive paltry 80 Gh Cedis a month due to the serious weak financial footings of the club.
