Coach for Black Stars ‘B’ Maxwell Konadu reveals his team’s WAFU Cup success was made realistic as they entered the competition to redeem their reputation and make the nation proud after failing out in CHAN.
Konadu haven’t stayed,schooled and started his footballing career in the country’s Upper West(Wa) region with Nkoranza Republic has been the harm of affairs as coach for Ghanaian premier league giants Wa All Stars in 2009-2011 and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2011-2012.
Speaking on what triggered the Star WAFU Cup victory on Sports File said “a meeting was called with the technical handlers of the team after failing out in CHAN in Kumasi to Burkina Faso,figured one thing clear,which is going all out in the WAFU Cup to redeem that our lost reputation and make the nation proud again which came to pass,” he disclosed.
He added “l have a very strong and good relationship with the players. I lower myself to their level to let them know there are thousands of players out there who aims in getting the opportunity they have,so they should give their all to cement it”
“What also motivated the boys more is when they saw the head coach for the senior national team was present himself,whispered into their ears that with the little performance uplift can book them a callup to the Black Stars.
Maxwell being the assistant to Kwasi Appiah in the senior national team currently,was part of the medalist team that represented Ghana in the Barcelona 1992 Olympic games,and have had the opportunity to also handle the national U-20 and U-23 teams in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
On what contributes bitterly to the players abysmal performance most a times said “the country’s poor pitches,bad feeding and relaxation habit on the path of the players also contributes to their shanbolic performances mostly,as this time around everything was made accurate with certified doctors and experience technical stuff around to take proper care of them also enhanced their performance,” he noted.
Maxwell Konadu in 2015 was the interim coach for the Black Stars,helping secured the team qualification to Equatorial Guinea African Cup of Nations.
