Newcastle United have completed the permanent the signing of Chelsea winger Christian Atsu for an undisclosed fee.
Atsu,25, made 32 league appearances this season for the Magpies after joining Rafa Benitez’s side last year from Chelsea, and scored five goals for Newcastle in the process.
It was recently reported that the two clubs had reached agreement on a deal which is set to cost Newcastle in the region of £6 million for the Ghana international, and that transfer is now complete.
The club fail to reveal a fee, but state that they have taken up the option they had of signing Atsu permanently from Chelsea and that the winger is now reapplying for a new work permit.
“We are happy to sign a good player,” Benitez told the club’s official website.
“He’s shown us that he’s a good professional and someone who is very keen to learn and improve.
“Christian has been a key part of our promotion campaign and he wants to help us to build something for the future.”
Atsu joined Chelsea in a £3.5m switch from Porto during the summer of 2013 and has since had loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, Bournemouth and Málaga as well as St James’ Park.
