Our game plan was excellent- Nuttall

Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Frank Nuttall has hailed his players for executing an excellent game plan in the 2-1 win over WAFA on Monday afternoon at the Accra sports stadium.

Thomas Abbey and Winful Cobbinah scored in either half to help Hearts beat WAFA 2-1 ] in the match-day 14 fixture of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.

Abubakur Ibrahim pulled a goal back for the Sogakope based Academy side.

The Scottish trainer was pleased about his players performance in their victory over the current league leaders.

“I am very pleased with the players and their focus for the game and application to the game plan was excellent so I am really happy for the players,” he told accraheartsofoaksc.com

Abbey headed Hearts in the lead as early as the third minute of action to take the wind out of WAFA’s sail from a sweet Winful Cobbinah set-piece.

“It was good [to score from a set-piece],” Nuttall said. “You know we worked on set-piece and I always encourage the players to score goals from set-piece. We always speak about it so I am very pleased for Abbey to get the goal.

“I am happy to get any goal whenever it comes and it is always good to get the early goal. The good thing about is that after we got the early goal, we should have gone on to score more goals in the first half but we did not settle or sit down on only one goal. We did not sit back and take pressure from the opposition; we stuck to our game plan and we tried to get another goal and that was very pleasing.”

He added on Cobbinah’s goal: “I think any time you put the ball in the box, there is a chance a mistake could come from somewhere because there’s a chance to get a touch on the ball so it was good. I think Sam Yeboah went up there and put pressure on the goalkeeper and I think it was Yeboah’s goal and not Cobbinah’s. There was a bit of discussion between the two of them [Cobbinah and Yeboah] in the dressing but I think it was Sam Yeboah’s.”
