Ex-Black Stars captain, CK Akonnor, has attributed Ghana’s painful lost to Cameron in the 2017 Afcon semi-final match to tactical bankruptcy and wastefulness in front of goal.
“The opponent were tactically better than us. They did more than we did in terms of when they have the ball and when they don’t have the ball; they know what to do at every given time,” he stated on Friday in an interview with Nii Arday Clegg on Morning Starr.
Ghana’s dream of ending a 35 year wait for the Africa cup of nation’s title suffered a huge blow after Cameroon defeated the Black Stars 2-0 in the second semi- final game in Gabon.
Two second-half goals from defender Michael Ngadieu and a late strike from Christian Bassagog ensured that the Cameroonians set up a date with Egypt in the finals.
“The first 20 minutes they were [Cameroon] really on us because we opened up and they wouldn’t do that. They did the same with Senegal and it continued with us [Black Stars]. There were a lot of opportunities for them to kill the game in the early minutes.”he added.
The Indomitable Lions will play the Pharaoh’s of Egypt in the finals of the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
The Stars will also play Burkina Faso in the third place game on Saturday.
