Ghana will be the centre of attraction from November 17 to December 1 2018 when the Africa Women’s Championship kicks start.
And head coach Black Princesses coach Yusif Basigi says the tournament will in no doubt expose his players to the world and as well enlighten their football career.
Ghana has not missed out on any Women’s AFCON since its introduction in 1998, and not once have the Black Queens been able to the lift trophy.
The same level of success on the continent is not evident on the World stage, the Black Queens have made 3 appearance but have never gone past the group stage.
The Ghana football Association until recently introduced the Ghana Womens League divided over two zones, Northern zone and Southern Zone.
The idea mainly was to unearth new talents across the country to feed the women’s national teams, but that sole intervention has not been enough to enable us compete with the best.
Bassgi who took the team to 3rd place at the 2016 AWCON says there are enough potentials available to make Ghana compete at the highest level in Women’s Football.
‘’Tournament like this expose the female players to the world and improve their skills and more opportunity for them. the benefit for these AWCON on women football in Ghana is many as many young girls get the opportunity to showcase what the country have to the whole world. ‘’ Basigi told TV3 Sports.
”So we have to encourage the team to do more, i plead with Ghana to come and support the team so they can lift the trophy,” he added.
LOC Chairperson for the 2018 women’s Africa cup of nations Freda Prempeh also believes the country can turn the corner in Women’s football through hosting the competition.
‘’Is going to boost our economic empowerment especially women, because i know a lot of women are going to make some gains in terms of trading at the various stadia and training pitches, I know that the restaurants are going to make a lot of money, the hotels are going to make a lot of money, so the so benefits are enormous, economic benefit is going to be high,”
”we will have an opportunity to project our country culture and tourism. So for our opening ceremony for instant we are focusing on a lot of culture and tourism, eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, Drink Ghana, see Ghana, dress Ghana, sleep Ghana’’ Freda Prempeh said.
Ghana 2018 AWCON gets underway from November 17 to December 1 2018 between the city of Accra and Cape Coast.
