Ghana’s Black Queens beat Kenya 3-1 in their final Group B match at the 2020 Turkish Women’s Cup on Tuesday to clinch third-place playoff at the Starlight Sport Complex in Antalya.
The Black Queens took revenge of the Harmabee Starlets who knocked them out them during the 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers five months ago.
Elizabeth Addo delivered a free-kick to open the scoring for Mercy Tagoe’s side.
This was after striker Princella Adubea had been brought down after beating his marker with her lovely footworks.
Kenya nearly snatched the leveller in the 23rd minute but a free-kick taken from the left flank came off the crossbar the Queens defended it out.
Captain Addo made it two-zero after 55 minutes when she converted a spot kick.
Addo raced down the left flank before entering the box to cut the ball back to Adubea who was fouled inside the box.
Grace Asantewaa’s long range strike landed inside the net for the third goal six minute from the final whistle to become the tournament’s joint top scorer with three goals alongside Chile’s Karen Araya.
However, a poor defending denied Ghana a clean sheet as Kenya scored from close range to get a consolation on stoppage time.
The Black Queens will face Romania who finished second in Group A in third-place playoff match.
