The former number nine of the Cameroon national football team wants to see Joël Matip wear the colors of his country again especially during the World Cup in Qatar.
Can Roger Milla succeed where Samuel Eto’o and Rigobert Song seem to have failed?
It should be remembered that as soon as his appointment was announced, the manager-coach of the Indomitable Lions Rigobert Song and the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation went to Europe with the mission of convincing, among other players, Joël Matip to return to the selection.
But on the face of it, the two former teammates wouldn’t have had the opportunity to chat directly with the Liverpool defender.
Consequence?: the former Schalke 04 player was not selected for the World Cup play-offs against Algeria.
Now that Cameroon have qualified, it’s Roger Milla’s turn to nurture the ambition to bring the Bochum native back into the national team.
“I’m going to talk to the president of FECAFOOT. We are going to see Joël Matip so that he comes for the World Cup, ”said Roger Milla during the Club d’Elite program on Vision 4.
Joël Matip has indeed decided to stay away from the Cameroon national team the day after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Liverpool player has never publicly expressed the reasons for his decision. But all attempts to bring him back to the national team have been unsuccessful so far.
