Isreal-based striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom was in action for the first time in four years as Ghana drew one apiece against Ethiopia in the 2022 World Cup qualifier on Thursday afternoon at the Orlando Stadium.
The attacker was handed a starting berth by Coach Milovan Rajevac as the Black Stars dropped important points at Johannesburg.
Boakye-Yiadom’s shot from close in the early minutes of the game was saved and minutes to the halftime break he failed to score from inside the box.
His unimpressive display saw his substituted after 61 minutes, making way for midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.
Yiadom had last played for Black Stars in November 2017 when he lasted 16 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Egypt in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.
Thursday’s result means Ghana will need a victory over South Africa who defeated Zimabawe 1-0 at the FNB Stadium, on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium to book qualification to the playoff phase of the qualifiers.
