Head coach of the Black Stars team, Charles Kwablan Akonnor has admitted South Africa coach Hugo Broos won the midfield battle between the two teams during Monday’s encounter.
Broos’ men managed to score one goal past Ghana which was the game’s winner as they climbed to the top of the summit in Group G.
Ghana’s midfield failed to turn on against the Bafana Bafana side with Emmanuel Lomotey, Mubarak Wakaso and Majeed Ashimeru all failing to create a meaningful chance for the forwards.
Speaking after the game, Akonnor said: “Well, we started very well in the first half, tactically we were very disciplined. It went the way we want it. [But] we were not clinical upfront, that’s the problem. But I was satisfied with the way we played in terms of controlling the game.”
“In the second half, we somehow lost the midfield in terms of how we want to play because we believed that we could win the game. We did one or two substitutions, which really went the other way round and we kept dropping and dropping.”
The Black Stars have three points from two games after the slim win over Ethiopia prior to the fixture against South Africa.
