Ghana Coach Otto Addo has acknowledged that his side faces a challenging path to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after being drawn in a tough group, but remains confident of qualification.
GHANA PAIRED WITH ANGOLA, SUDAN, AND NIGER IN GROUP F
The Black Stars have been grouped alongside Angola, Sudan, and Niger in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers, with the tournament set to take place in Morocco next year.
Speaking to the Ghana FA website, Addo acknowledged the difficulty of the group but believes in his team’s ability to overcome the challenge.
ADDOW SINGLES OUT ANGOLA AS TOUGH OPPOSITION
Addo praised Angola’s squad, saying they have a “very, very good” team that has impressed in recent tournaments.
He noted that Angola had a strong performance at the 2023 AFCON, where they lost 1-0 to Nigeria, and has also excelled in the COSAFA Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
“Surely, we believe in ourselves to qualify from this group. But it’s going to be tough,” he told the Ghana FA website.
“To begin with Angola, I think they have a very, very good squad. I think they had a good AFCON but went out after losing 1-0 to Nigeria; they did really, really well in that match, I watched it.
BLACK STARS DETERMINED TO SUCCEED
Despite acknowledging the tough competition, Addo remains adamant that his team can succeed. “It’s going to be tough, it’s going to be close,” he said. “But like I said, I have a strong belief that we can succeed against them.”
The AFCON qualifiers are set to kick off in September this year, with Ghana looking to make a strong start to their campaign and overcome the challenges posed by their opponents in Group F.
