Promising Ghanaian defender Kojo Peprah Oppong has received his maiden call-up to the Black Stars ahead of the country’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
The 20-year-old, who plies his trade in France with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, has enjoyed a breakthrough this season with commanding performances that have impressed both fans and scouts.
Oppong’s football journey began at the Attram De Visser Soccer Academy in Accra before he moved to Europe, joining Swedish side IFK Norrköping. His steady rise earned him a transfer to Nice, where he has quickly become one of the standout young defenders in the French league.
His progress has now been rewarded by Black Stars coach Otto Addo, who is looking to blend youthful energy with experience in Ghana’s defensive setup. Oppong will compete for a place alongside established internationals like Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku, and Alidu Seidu.
The youngster’s inclusion reflects Ghana’s commitment to rejuvenating the national team with fresh talent as the Black Stars push for a strong finish in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Football analysts believe Oppong’s versatility and composure at the back could make him an important asset for the team. His first call-up marks what many expect to be the start of a long and successful international career.
