2026 WCQ: I’m not afraid of getting sacked; We are still on top of Group I- Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo says he isn’t afraid to get booted out of his role as the lead trainer of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team despite his below average record.

He made this bold statement in his pre-game presser ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 9 at 19:00 GMT.

Ghana conceded a Celestine Ecua 89th minute equalizer to draw 1-1 with Chad while Mali beat Comoros 3-0 ahead of Monday’s game.

The Black Stars’ performance and failure to beat Chad had Otto Addo heavily criticized but the former Borussia Dortmund assistant head coach delivered a defiant tone in his response and even stated that he isn’t afraid to get sacked.

In his second stint as Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has led the team to five wins, five losses and five draws in 15 games while scoring 27 goals and conceding 18 in the process.

“These statistics of my wins and losses are of no use especially when there are friendly games in between. I’m not afraid of anything [getting sacked]. We are still on top of Group I so nothing has changed” he said.

Under Otto Addo, the Black Stars failed to qualify to the 2025 AFCON and head coach of Mali, Tom Saintfiet, described the failure to qualify as shocking.
