In the intense battle of the Group G qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Algeria secured a convincing 3-1 victory against Somalia on their home turf.

The match unfolded in Baraki and featured some notable moments that shaped the outcome.

Algeria wasted no time in asserting their dominance as they took the lead just one minute into the game. However, the early advantage came through an unfortunate own goal, setting the stage for a challenging encounter for the Somali team.

The North Africans continued to press forward, seeking to build on their lead. Their efforts bore fruit in the 30th minute when Baghdad Bounedjah found the back of the net, doubling Algeria’s lead and further tightening their grip on the match.

Somalia, determined to make a statement, managed to pull one back with 25 minutes remaining on the clock. Issa Abatari’s contribution injected a sense of competitiveness into the game, hinting at a potential comeback.

Nevertheless, Algeria remained resolute, and Islam Slimani put the match beyond doubt in the 80th minute. Slimani’s goal ensured that the North Africans secured all three points, solidifying their position in the Group G standings.

This victory for Algeria adds an important chapter to their World Cup qualifying journey, showcasing their prowess and determination on the road to the 2026 tournament.
