Tuesday August 31st, 2021 is exactly 30 years since Ghana Black Starlets won the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Cup staged in Italy and Ghana’s Odartey Lamptey was voted tournament’s best player.
Ghana defeated Spain by 1-0 in the grande finale with Emmanuel Duah scoring a 77th minute solitary winner on 31st August 1991 in Florence.

Some of the notable members of this World Cup winning squad of Ghana were Nii Odartey Lamptey who won the overall best player of the tournament ahead of Brazil’s Adriano, Emmanuel Duah the hero of the final match, Mohammed Gargo, the supremely talented Nana Opoku, Sebastien Barnes, Isaac Asare, Yaw Preko, Mark Edusei and the likes.
This remains one of the greatest achievements of Lamptey and the Starlets squad of 1991.
