French-born Ghanaian Elisha Owusu has been handed his maiden Black Stars call up ahead of the World Cup playoff against Nigeria, GHANASoccernet.com reports.

The 24-year-old KAA Gent midfielder has been speaking with officials of the Ghana Football Association and interim coach Otto Addo for the double header against the Super Eagles later this month.

Although, he was born in France and has represented the European country at youth levels, Owusu is eligible to play for the Black Stars of Ghana because of his father.

The defensive midfielder is having a decent campaign in Belgium, having made 15 appearances for Gent in the topflight.

Owusu joined Gent from French giants Olympique Lyonnais, where he spent most of his youth development. He was captain of the reserve side and prior to his departure, he played a season at Sochaux.

His addition to the Black Stars team is expected to beef up the team for the crucial clash with the Super Eagles later this month.

The Black Stars are hoping to appease fans of the national team by qualifying for the 2022 World Cup after a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Ghana hosts Nigeria in Cape Coast on Friday March 24, 2022 before the return leg in Abuja three days later.
