Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer- CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah, has appealed to goverment to dedicate at least $1m for the Ghana Premier League Champions to ensure they make significant in Caf I nter-club competitions.

The Porcupine Warriors on Thursday 2nd June, 2022 drew one all against Ashantigold SC to emerge champions of the 2021/22 season.

“I would like to send a message to the entire nation, his Excellency the President, the government of the day. Ghana used to have four slots on the continent but now we have two due to the fact that we don’t really perform well when we go.

”When Kotoko goes to Africa this time, we are not just going as Kotoko, we are going to represent Ghana,” Nana Yaw Amponsah told the media on Thursday in Obuasi.

“If the government of the day is able to devote $6m or $8m for Afcon for the Black Stars to go and represent Ghana then why can’t the government help at team like Kotoko or Hearts or whoever wins the league with a 1 million support to go and lift high the flag of Ghana.

“What is the prize of winning the league, it’s about 250,000 Ghana cedis which is about $30,000 and that cannot even be used to play one home match so the prize money is not there, no sponsorship for the league.
“We cannot use the same budget we operate here to go and do well in Africa.

”The likes of Al Ahly are running around 89 million to 90 million dollars budget a year, we are at Kotoko at my time are running about 2 million dollars which is minimal so if we want to go and do well we should prepare well and should have the support of the entire nation because if we go and we do well the slots of Ghana will be increased.

“There is hope, last season we did not lose a single match away in Africa, we went to Mauritania drew, we went to Algeria – Setif and drew, we went to Sudan and we were eliminated by covid-19 tactics. It means that when we prepare well with the right recruitment with the right support from the Board, supporters and the government of the day, with the GFA as well, there is no way we won’t go and do well because Ghana needs the four slots back.” He concluded.
