Assistant coach of the Black Stars, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, says the technical team’s knowledge about the Nigeria team was more than what the Super Eagles thought.
Ghana beat Nigeria to acquire a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup back in March, drawing 0-0 in Kumasi before settling for a 1-1 stalemate in Abuja.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, the former Asante Kotoko head coach, said Ghana’s team had more ideas on how to deal with their counterparts in the playoff games.
“We knew the Nigerians more than they had thought of us,” he said.
“It takes Black Stars coaching staff more than 2 months to invite players to the team, we have a list of players in our data system that we monitor week in and week out and speak to them to know who are ready to get into the team from our supplementary team at a point in time.”
Didi Dramani also urged Ghanaian clubs to create a youth system to aid in the upbringing of players for the national teams.
“We encourage our clubs in Ghana to constitute stronger youth systems to help the development of players and also make our national teams more competitive,” he added.
“It’s important to create success rather than buying success, our clubs should invest in youth development.”
