Ambassador for the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar, Samuel Eto’o, says Asamoah Gyan’s desire to play at the mundial will depend on the decision head coach Otto Addo.

Gyan has been in the news over the last days after revealing his plans to make a return to the senior national team ahead of their involvement in the World Cup.

Speaking with BBC, the 36-year said he is looking to regain full fitness and will leave no doors close about making it to Qatar.

However, Eto’o, who also played at the World Cup with Cameroon, believes the decision to take Gyan to the World Cup will depend on Otto Addo and his technical team.

“Asamoah Gyan has given us great joy and lots of pleasure and I am glad that he wants to take on this challenge [going to the World Cup],” Eto’o told Nana Aba Anamoah.

“But once again, the final decision will be that of the coach.”

The Black Stars will face Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay at the World Cup later this year.
