West Africa Football Academy, WAFA, has appointed Banabas Awuni as the club’s new manager for the ongoing Access Bank Division One League.

The CAF license B holder who left his former club Mountaineers FC, a Division Two side based in Kweiman few months ago, has now joined the Academy lads.

He nearly joined Daboase based club Skyy FC after helping them with recruitment for the season but negotiations failed to go through as the deal broke down.

Coach Awuni popular known Barnab Forsure previously guided Vision FC to book qualification to Division One in 2014/15 season which they were unbeaten in all 5 matches in their middle league at Tema sports stadium.

After returning from Thailand where he managed Chonburi FC Academy side, he stayed a season with Vision FC in the Division One League for 2015/16 season.

He later joined mighty jet as an assistant coach in 2016/17 season before joining Ghana Angles soccer Academy at Prampram for two years 2017-19 season

He also had few months in Benin division 2 side Olympic Sports de Parakou before joining MFC for three (3) years from 2019-2022.

Coach Awuni joins the zone two (2) side for the first time and ready for the challenge ahead and have been tasked to lead the academy boys to gain promotion back to the Betpawa Premier League and will be assisted by former Akatsi Kickers Head coach Alex Amezah who’s also a course mate under the supervision of the academy young technical director coach Sadiq Abubakar

Coach Awuni after completing the move to WAF said: “It’s a new challenge and a leaning point for me to handle a division one side for the first time as a head coach but we all know the structures at WAFA and it’s going to help me a lot to improve also in my career.

“It’s not going to be my first time experience in division one football after being with vision fc as an assistant coach in zone three (3).

WAFA at a point nearly pulled out from the division one league because of their location in Sogakope and pleaded with the FA to be moved them to play in zone 3 but it wasn’t possible so they decided to move the first team to base in Kasoa and use their former grounds at Gomoa Fetteh as their venue for the coming season and will visit Future Stars FC in their first league game at Okese Park in Ejisu
