Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has revealed that his biggest decision in football was the way he reacted against racism when he was a player.
Addo had a successful career in football, playing for Dortmund and the Black Stars, where he was part of the squad for the 2006 World Cup.
In an interview on Countdown Qatar, he stated that his career would not have gone far if he hadn’t stayed calm in the face of racism.
“I think for me personally, looking back, it was when I grew up. There was a lot of racism confronting me so for me it was always about reacting to this or concentrating on my career because if I knew that if I had reacted to it, I would have gotten red cards and I wouldn’t have gotten so far so it was a big decision but I didn’t have to position to speak up against it,” he said.
It’s good to see that things have changed a little bit. It’s still there but at least you can speak up. There are a lot of federations and organisations going against that so that’s good.”
Otto Addo will lead the team against Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.
