Samuel Amo-Ameyaw, an English-born player of Ghanaian descent, made his Premier League debut as a substitute in Southampton’s draw with Liverpool on the final day of the season.

The 16-year-old winger came off the bench in the 87th minute, replacing James Ward-Prowse, and made his first appearance for Southampton in the English Premier League at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Liverpool took the lead with a goal from Diogo Jota, capitalizing on Romeo Lavia’s poor pass, before Roberto Firmino doubled their advantage after 14 minutes, scoring in his final match for the Reds.

However, the Saints fought back with a goal from James Ward-Prowse and leveled the score in the 28th minute when Kamaldeen Sulemana netted his first goal for the club.

Sulemana completed the comeback just after halftime, and Adam Armstrong put Southampton 4-2 ahead in the 64th minute.

Liverpool, though, responded with Cody Gakpo’s tap-in in the 72nd minute, and Diogo Jota secured the equalizer a minute later with his second goal of the game.

Amo-Ameyaw joined Southampton on a scholarship deal from Tottenham Hotspur’s Academy in August 2022. He had previously made ten appearances for Tottenham’s Under-18 side last season.

He has been a standout performer for Southampton’s youth teams, scoring seven goals and providing an assist in 26 appearances this season.

Despite representing England at the U16 and U17 levels, Amo-Ameyaw remains eligible to represent Ghana in the future.
