Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus can now look forward to working with a new head coach at Ajax Amsterdam, following the departure of John Heitinga.

After an extensive search for a new head coach, Ajax has officially announced the appointment of Maurice Steijn to lead the team.

Maurice Steijn takes over from John Heitinga, whose contract was not renewed after Ajax finished a disappointing third in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Heitinga had succeeded Alfred Schreuder, who had replaced Erik ten Hag but was dismissed in January after a string of seven winless matches in his brief stint at the prestigious Dutch club.

On Wednesday, the club confirmed that the 49-year-old Steijn will sign a three-year contract after leaving Sparta Rotterdam, where he guided the team to a sixth-place finish in the Eredivisie this season, having previously rescued them from relegation the previous year.

Steijn has previously managed Dutch clubs such as ADO The Hague, VVV-Venlo, NAC Breda, and Sparta, as well as Al-Wahda in the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus, who has been linked with a potential departure from Ajax this summer, is currently in the Black Stars camp, preparing for Ghana’s AFCON 2023 qualifier against Madagascar.
