The FIFA Club Benefits Programme will provide over $500,000 to five Ghanaian clubs as part of the benefits for having representatives in the Black Stars squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
According to a FIFA report set to be revealed on Thursday morning, the Ghana Football Association collected $565,772.42 to be dispersed among Ghana’s five clubs.
The scheme benefits Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, King Faisal, Dreams Football Club, and Steadfast Football Club.
According to the report, Hearts received the most money, $219,008.70, while Kotoko got $200,757.97.
Steadfast also received $109,504.72 according to the records. Dreams and King Faisal both received $18,250.72.
The financial reward comes as a result of the teams boasting players that played during the two years of the qualifiers and made the final squad for the Mundial.
No matter how many minutes they participated during the competition, every one of the 837 football players is qualified to receive a rounded per player daily amount of USD 10,950. Ghana competed in the tournament till the group stage ended.
The FIFA Club Benefits Programme is an effort meant to recognise football clubs’ contributions during World Cup periods.
Clubs are also financially rewarded from tournament revenues, which are distributed through member organisations to clubs that made their players available for their respective national teams.
The programme was launched in advance of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
