Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars, understands the weight of expectations placed on the Ghanaian national team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Reflecting on the draw that placed Ghana in a challenging qualifying group, Gyan acknowledged the tough road ahead for the Black Stars.

Despite the formidable opponents in their group, Gyan remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances of securing a spot in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

He expressed the sentiment that Ghana is becoming more accustomed to the World Cup and emphasized the team’s commitment to giving their best to ensure qualification.

“It looks like we are getting used to the World Cup. 2026 is not going to be easy because the expectation is high back home but we will try our possible best to make sure we also qualify.”

Gyan had the honor of participating in the draw alongside other African football icons, making selections that determined the group in which Ghana will compete. Group I will see Ghana pitted against Mali, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros, Chad, and Mali once again.

With this challenging group, the Black Stars will need to demonstrate their resilience and determination throughout the qualifiers. Gyan’s experience and leadership will undoubtedly serve as valuable assets to the team as they navigate the journey towards World Cup qualification.
