Ghana Premier League side, Karela United is exploring new venue options for the upcoming 2023/24 football season.
According to Mr. Lawrence Saforo Cudjoe, Karela’s Director of Operations, the club will submit a home venue to the Club Licensing Board (CLB) this month.
The two potential venues being considered are the Cape Coast Stadium and the Ndoum Sports Stadium, both of which offer suitable facilities for hosting matches. Additionally, Karela United is contemplating the newly constructed Axim Sports Complex as a potential home ground.
The Crosby Awuah Memorial Park, Karela United’s original home ground, is undergoing renovations and may not meet the new Club Licensing requirements, making it unsuitable for the upcoming season.
” We are going to submit Cape Coast or Ndoum Sports Stadium to CLB because we have been ordered to work on our park before the season starts, and in case we couldn’t meet their requirements we must feed them our alternative venues”
”We are also considering Axim Sports Complex if it will also reach the Club Licencing Board requirements,” he added.
The Axim Sports Complex, located in the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Municipal of the Western Region, is an impressive multi-sports facility that can host various sporting events, including football, athletics, basketball, and long tennis.
The project includes four seating stands, a VIP/Presidential lounge, general seating areas, a media tribune, a control room for media and stadium operations, dressing rooms for players, referees’ rooms, and multi-purpose courts for hand sports like basketball, handball, long tennis, and volleyball.
The construction cost for the Axim Youth Resource Centre, which houses the sports complex, stands at ¢18 million cedis ($1.46 million USD), as reported by the National Youth Authority. By considering these options, Karela United aims to secure a suitable home ground for the upcoming season in compliance with the Club Licensing requirements.
