James Kwasi Appiah, a member of the four-man Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko, has expressed his belief that the 2023/24 football season will pose challenges for the team.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the owner and life patron of Asante Kotoko, announced the formation of a four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the club’s affairs.

This decision came after the dissolution of the 12-member board of directors, led by Dr. Kwame Kyei, and the management, led by Nana Yaw Amponsah, following the expiration of their mandate.

The members of the new IMC are Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, who serves as the Kontomponiaferehene and is a chartered accountant, former Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who has been appointed as the new head coach, and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, who will take on the role of administrative manager.

Speaking to Akoma FM, James Kwasi Appiah, the former Black Stars coach, acknowledged that the upcoming season would be challenging for Asante Kotoko, but he remains optimistic that the team will be well-prepared for the campaign.

He mentioned that once they have a substantive coach, they will assess the players leaving the team and recruit new talents as replacements. Despite the challenges, he believes that with intensive six weeks of training, the team should be ready, even though some players are currently away with the national camp (Black Galaxy).

“The season will not be easy for Kotoko but once we have a substantive coach, he (the Coach) will be looking at players who will be leaving and then recruit new ones as replacement”

“The pre-season will be affected a little bit but I think with intensive six weeks training, the team should be ready, it’s just unfortunate that some of the players are at the national camp (Black Galaxy)”

“But we will start with those available and make sure that all other aspect of the team is receiving the necessary attention”

In the previous 2022/23 Ghana Premier League campaign, the Porcupine Warriors finished in 4th place. Meanwhile, as part of the club’s ongoing restructuring process, they have decided to withdraw from the upcoming GHALCA Top 4 competition.
