Ghanaian youngster Kwadwo Opoku ‘Mahala’ has signed a new deal with Major League Soccer (MLS) side CF Montreal, the club has confirmed.
The arrangement is effective immediately and runs until the end of the 2026 season, with one option year in 2027.
On July 5, Opoku was bought from LAFC in exchange for $1,650,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money and $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money.
Since arriving in Montreal, the Ghanaian forward has made two starts, played 121 minutes, and scored the game-winning goal in last Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Charlotte FC at Stade Saputo. He also played 77 minutes in the Leagues Cup opener against Pumas UNAM.
Opoku helped LAFC win the MLS Cup in 2022. In three and a half seasons with the California club, the 21-year-old striker appeared in 60 regular-season games, including 35 starts, and played 3,254 minutes, scoring nine goals and assisting seven.
