Yakubu Nuhu Liman is one of the most controversial referees in the country and this weekend the GFA announced that he will be responsible for the Berekum Chelsea and Dreams FC game.
The game to be played at the Golden City Park will not only attract attention because of the fact that Chelsea – the league winner of 2010/11 season – will be playing hosts to perhaps the strongest promoted side in Dreams FC but also for the reason that the Man in Black Nuhu Liman is involved.
In August 2017 he was banned by the Match Review Panel for the remainder of the season for awarding Asante Kotoko a dubious penalty in their FA Cup quarterfinal tie against Division One side NEA Salamina at the Babayara Sports Stadium.
Kotoko won the game 2-1 in the end but even coach of the Porcupine Warriors – Steven Polack – rejected the penalty describing it as “a no penalty” in his post-game presser.
It was yet another horrible refereeing delivered by the Wa-based premier league referee.
In 2015 Nuhu Liman awarded B.A United a similar non-existent penalty that aided the home side to equalize a WAFA lead. Zakaria Mumuni had scored a wonderful long rage goal and the academy boys thought they were all but done until Nuhu Liman awarded United an appalling penalty to equalize. That gem ended 1-1 but it was the performance of the referee that dominated the headlines.
