“Kurt Okraku is using the GFA to amass wealth for Dreams FC” – George Afriyie alleges

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, George Afriyie, has expressed concerns about Kurt Okraku, the current GFA boss, suggesting that Okraku’s focus seems to be primarily benefiting his club, Dreams FC, in terms of wealth generation.

Both Afriyie and Okraku have submitted their nominations to vie for the GFA presidency, with the Elective Congress set to take place on September 27 at the Redaach Memorial Hotel in Tamale.

Detailing his campaign plans and vision for a potential presidency, Afriyie stated, “Today I have filed my nominations. In the coming days, we will be educating our football people, those who are investing in the game. We will tell you every truth.”

He continued, “You are made to believe Kurt Okraku is making wealth for all. It is a good thing, but the truth is he is making wealth for Dreams FC. Shine your eyes,” Afriyie asserted.

Afriyie also raised concerns about the potential conflict of interest arising from Okraku’s apparent focus on enhancing the financial success of Dreams FC, potentially to the detriment of other prominent clubs like Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

“If three of his team members make it to the World Cup and each gets $100,000, how much are they making? What about Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, and other clubs?”

He stressed the necessity of transparent practices and an equitable distribution of resources among all participating clubs, emphasizing the importance of creating a level playing field for the entire landscape of Ghanaian football.

In the midst of these contrasting viewpoints, Kurt Okraku, the incumbent President of the GFA, has officially declared his candidacy for a second term in the upcoming GFA elections.
