Medeama has successfully secured the signing of former Ghana youth standout Daniel Lomotey, securing a significant transfer coup. The club officially announced the acquisition of Lomotey on Monday.
At 23 years old, Lomotey has inked a two-year contract with the Ghana Premier League champions, a move that bolsters the team’s roster.
Lomotey’s journey to Medeama follows his departure from Algerian club ES Setif. Having initially joined the North African powerhouse on a three-year deal in January 2021 for a sum of $100,000, Lomotey has chosen to leave with a year remaining on his contract, opting to return to his homeland of Ghana. This strategic decision has led him to commit to Medeama with a permanent contract, ensuring his continued presence in the Ghanaian football scene.
In an official statement, Medeama expressed their elation at securing the services of the former Ghana Under-20 striker. The statement highlighted Lomotey’s signing on a two-year agreement, marking his return to the Ghana Premier League after his productive two-year stint in North Africa. As the team aims to excel on multiple fronts this season, Lomotey’s talent is anticipated to be a valuable asset.
Lomotey’s reputation was notably boosted by his exceptional performance while with the West African Football Academy (WAFA), particularly in a high-scoring match against Medeama. In January 2021, he played a pivotal role in WAFA’s 5-4 victory over Medeama, leaving a lasting impression with four goals.
With his swift integration into the team, Lomotey has already joined Medeama at their temporary base in Cape Coast. He could potentially make himself available for selection in the team’s upcoming Super Cup match against Dreams FC, scheduled to take place at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.
