Why Gladson Awako and Sulley Muntari left Hearts of Oak – Dan Quaye reveals

Former Hearts of Oak defender, Daniel Quaye has attributed the departure of experience duo Sulley Muntari and Gladson Awako to the culture of silence system in the club.

According to Daniel Quaye, Sulley Muntari and Gladson Awako both left the club because the system does not encourage senior players to correct the young ones from going astray and the taboo of speaking up against the problems in the team.

Both Sulley Muntari and Gladson Awako joined Hearts of Oak under the stewardship of coach Samuel Boadu in the 2021/2022 football season after the Phobians had won the local treble to break their 10-year trophy drought.

Dan Quaye has now linked his departure to problem in the team as he claimed that the system being run in Hearts of Oak does not give room for vocal senior players.

“They do things anyhow in the club and when the experience players talk, they force them out. We all know why Awako was sacked from the club. He was sacked because if the things are not going on well and he speaks, then there is a problem.”

“There is no proper leadership in the club. The same thing happened to Sulley Muntari because they will not accept any contributions he brought on board considering his experience in the game,” Dan Quaye said in an interview with Rainbow Radio.

He also complained about the Board’s refusal to use former Accra Hearts of Oak players who have management experiences in the running of the club.

“We have former players who are knowledgeable in football administration but this Board will not involve them in the running of the club when Hearts of Oak is for everybody.”
