The former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah’s son, Rodney Appiah has disclosed how he is not under pressure to repeat what his father achieved and how he is determined to write his history.
Rodney Appiah, 22, is expected to have a career that resembles his father, Stephen Appiah.
Rodney Appiah began his career at the Division Two side Kingstep FC, co-owned by his father and another Black Stars ex-player, Laryea Kingston.
In 2021, Rodney joined Accra Great Olympics during the second transfer window of the season when Annor Walker was then the coach for Oly Dade. Rodney Appiah did not get much playing time due to injuries.
“I was out due to injuries, I had a knee injury the whole of last season so I wasn’t able to play any matches at all. For this season I am very very fit. I was at the hospital taking care of my injuries”, said Rodney.
He expressed his happiness in Annor Walkers’s return and believed that he would get much game time under the man who gave him his debut.
Rodney Appiah when probed about his dad’s influence, said, “Obviously I get everything I had from my dad, he is my coach, my mentor, my manager, my everything”. He continued, he shows me how to move on the field, how to be disciplined”.
On replicating his father’s incredible career, Rodney Appiah said, “Obviously I can’t do what he did, he’s a great man and he has done a lot for the country. I just hope I will do my best and make sure I show what I have”, Rodney added
Stephen Appiah captained the Black Stars during the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
