Ghana coach Chris Hughton has dismissed early comparisons between midfielder Majeed Ashimeru and Thomas Partey, despite Ashimeru’s impressive energy and resilience in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Madagascar.
Ashimeru, returning to the 25-man squad after missing the previous games due to injury, was introduced into the game after halftime and received widespread acclaim for his outstanding performance. Ghana secured a narrow win at the Baba Yara Stadium with a late goal by Inaki Williams.
Hughton emphasized that Ashimeru and Partey are distinct players with unique abilities that complement the team’s overall performance. He stated, “I wouldn’t say Majeed is a successor to Partey. Partey is a more technical and creative player, and Majeed is a runner. We are always looking out for any player that is bringing us something different.”
As Ghana prepares to face Comoros in their next game on Tuesday in Moroni, Hughton recognizes the diverse strengths each player brings to the team.
