Ghana’s local national team, the Black Galaxies, suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Bafana Bafana in an international friendly played in South Africa, but head coach Kasim Mingle remains upbeat about the future of his team.

The encounter formed part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, while South Africa used the fixture as part of their build-up to the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Despite the result, Mingle was pleased with his players’ display, especially considering the limited preparation time.

“It was a very good performance from my boys. We had just three weeks in camp, yet they put up a strong display, and I’m very happy with them. This is a new team we are building; it was hard luck, and we deserved to equalise. Overall, I am very satisfied with the performance.”

The Ghana coach also reflected on the decisive moment of the game, describing South Africa’s goal as avoidable.

“The goal they scored was a gifted one. Our midfielder made a mistake, and they capitalised by winning the ball and scoring.”Remove ads

Looking beyond the defeat, Mingle expressed strong belief in the long-term prospects of the Black Galaxies, stressing that more time together will yield better results.

“The future of this team is very bright, but there is still room for improvement. As time goes on, and with more time together in camp, I believe they will perform even better than they did today.”

The performance, though ending in defeat, offered encouraging signs for the Black Galaxies as they continue preparations for the upcoming CHAN 2026 qualifiers, with Mingle confident that continued work and cohesion will translate into stronger results in competitive fixtures.
