UEFA Champions League MD5: African player’s performance on Wednesday night

Group A

Moroccan and Ivorian internationals Hakim Ziyech and Wilfred Zaha started for Galatasaray in their epic 3-3 draw as Ziyech scored a brace for the Turkish side. Congolese forward Cedric Bakambu was an unused substitute for  Galatasaray.

Manchester United started Cameroonian Andre Onana and  Moroccan Sofyan Amrabat in their must-win game in Turkey as Onana was once again the villain. Tunisian midfielder Hanibal Mejbri was an unused substitute.

Bayern Munich drew 0-0 against Copenhagen at the Allianz Arena in Munich as Senegalese defender Bouna Sarr was not used from the bench by Bayern Munich.

Tunisian forward, Elias Achouri was brought on in the 60th minute by Copenhagen to replace Bardghji.

Group B

Moroccan striker, Youssef En Nesyri was on target in Sevilla’s 3-2 defeat at home against PSV Eindhoven. The Moroccan doubled the lead for Sevilla in the 47th minute for the home side. Moroccan midfielder Ismael Sabiri scored the first of PSV’s 3 in the 69th minute.

Mohammed El Neny of Egypt was not used from the bench in Arsenal’s 6-0 win against Lens by Arteta.

Five Africans were in the Lens matchday squad as Ghana’s Salis Samed Abdul, Massadio Haidara (Mali) and Nampalys Mendy (Senegal) all started for Lens. Neil El Aynaoui of Morocco replaced Abdul Samed in the 46th minute as Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor was an unused substitute.

Group C

Cameroon midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa was on target for Napoli in their 4-2 defeat away to Real Madrid as he completed the entire 90 minutes. Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen replaced Giovanni Simeone in the 46th minute of the second half.

Mali center-back Sikou Niakate was red-carded in the 30th minute in Braga’s 1-1 draw against Union Berlin. DR Congo forward Simon Banza played 67 minutes for Braga. Ivorian forward David Datro Fofana replaced Behrens in the 62nd minute for Union Berlin.

Group D

There was no African player in the matchday squads of Benfica and Inter Milan.

Sadick Umar and Hamari Traore replaced  Odriozola and Oyarzabal in Real Sociedad’d dull 0-0 draw against Red Bull Salzburg.

5 Africans were in Red Bull Salzburg’s matchday squad as Mali midfielder Dorgeles Nene started and lasted 62 minutes. Forson Amankwah (Ghana)and Karim Konate (Ivory Coast) came on in the second half as Malians Mamady Diambou and Sekou Koita were unused substitutes.
