Hearts of Oak is gearing up for the second transfer window in the Ghana Premier League, aiming to bolster their squad for the remaining matches in both the first and second rounds of the season.

The transfer window officially opens today, Monday, December 18, 2023.

Struggling to find their form in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, Hearts of Oak faced setbacks, leading to the dismissal of Dutch coach Martin Koopman. Additionally, they suffered an early exit from the MTN FA Cup, losing to division two side Nania Football Club in the round of 64 on penalty shootouts.

In a bid to strengthen the team, Hearts of Oak is set to part ways with four key players. In the goalkeeping and attacking departments, the club plans to offload Kojo Obeng Jr and Cameroonian Albert Diego Eonde. Obeng Jr, once the club’s top scorer in the 2020/21 season, has struggled with injuries and is yet to score this season. Eonde, a 26-year-old striker, joined the club from Cameroon in the 2022/23 season but has yet to find the back of the net this season.

Youngster Raphael Amponsah is also likely to leave on loan to gain more playing time. Despite scoring a crucial goal against Accra Lions, Amponsah appears on the departure list. Additionally, midfielder Eric Esso, who started in the opening three matches but failed to impress, is expected to exit Hearts of Oak.

Amidst these departures, Hearts of Oak has welcomed new signings, including Ivorian forward Kasim Cisse and Issah Kuka, who is set to join in the second round. Salim Adams, whose loan spell with FC Cincinnati has ended, will also be registered in the second round.

After accumulating 17 points in 15 matches, winning three, drawing eight, and losing four, Hearts of Oak will face city rivals Great Olympics on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, following their 1-1 draw with Nations Football Club.
