Former Bibiani Goldstars coach, Michael Osei, has provided insights into how the Black Stars can leave a lasting impact at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana, aiming for their fifth continental trophy after their last victory in 1982, will contend for the title in neighboring Ivory Coast. The tournament is scheduled from Saturday, January 13, to February 11, 2024.

Having witnessed the Black Stars play to a 0-0 draw against Namibia in a pre-AFCON friendly on Monday night, Osei, in an interview with Kessben FM, emphasized the team’s need for improvement in both attack and defense.

“We need to be better in both attack and defense. We have to be composed in defense and also be clinical in the opponents’ box,” he stated.

The West Africa powerhouse is set to depart Ghana for Ivory Coast on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Ghana will kick off their AFCON campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024, followed by matches against Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and 22, respectively, in Group B.

Despite winning the AFCON title four times, with the last triumph in 1982, the Black Stars have faced heartbreak in three subsequent finals, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, along with a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
