The Black Stars of Ghana find themselves anchored at the bottom of Group B in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Egypt.

In their tournament debut, the West African nation experienced a setback with a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde on Sunday, setting a challenging tone for the subsequent matches.

Entering the second group encounter against the formidable record champions, Ghana desperately needed a victory to enhance their prospects of progressing to the next round. Despite a valiant effort, they could only secure a single point.

Mohammed Kudus, absent in the initial clash against the Blue Sharks, showcased his prowess by scoring a remarkable brace. However, Egypt’s Marmoush and Mustapha Mohamed countered, leaving Rui Victoria’s men with a hard-fought draw. Notably, Egypt also commenced their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Mozambique.

Ghana, now holding just one point after two games, faces a critical situation. Their aspirations hinge on a triumph in the final group stage encounter against Mozambique scheduled for Monday, January 22. Additionally, they are dependent on a favorable outcome in the Cape Verde versus Egypt match.

The decisive clash for the Black Stars against Mozambique will unfold at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle as they aim to advance in the prestigious tournament.
