Former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has made his way back to the United Kingdom (UK) following the conclusion of his coaching role for Ghana’s senior national team.
Hughton’s departure unfolded in the aftermath of the Black Stars’ premature exit from the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) terminating his contract on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
The Irish-born Ghanaian tactician guided Ghana to a second consecutive early exit from the AFCON group stage, accumulating only two points in the tournament. The Black Stars faced a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde and managed 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique.
Throughout his tenure, Hughton, the former Brighton coach, supervised 13 matches, securing just four wins. A circulating video captures Chris Hughton’s return to the UK shortly after his dismissal from the coaching position in Ghana.
