Ivory Coast and Congo DR are set to clash at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in the second semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. It’s a crucial match for both teams, as they vie for a spot in the tournament’s final.

For Ivory Coast, this game holds particular significance as it marks their return to Ebimpe since their disappointing 4-0 loss against Equatorial Guinea in the group stage. The Elephants have a chance to redeem themselves in front of their supporters in Abidjan. On the other side, Congo DR is eager to reach the final for the first time since 1974.

The host nation, Ivory Coast, has faced its fair share of challenges throughout the tournament, including injuries and a tough group stage. However, under the leadership of Emerse Fae, who took over before the knockout stage, the team has shown resilience and determination.

Despite a rocky start, Ivory Coast managed to eliminate defending champions Senegal and secured a remarkable victory over Mali, even with only 10 players. The team’s fighting spirit has impressed fans and pundits alike.

However, Ivory Coast’s journey has taken its toll, with extended matches against Senegal and Mali leading to questions about their stamina. Nevertheless, they hope to draw inspiration from their passionate supporters and secure a spot in the final.

With a history of making comebacks, Ivory Coast remains confident even if they concede early goals, a trend seen in recent matches against Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal, and Mali.

Congo DR, under coach Sebastien Desabre, secured a crucial victory over Guinea, avoiding extra time. This win propelled them to the semi-finals for the first time since 2015 and only the second time since 2000.

Despite their impressive run, Congo DR faces a tough challenge against Ivory Coast, especially with the passionate home crowd rallying behind the Elephants. Their experience playing at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium against Guinea may give them an edge in Wednesday’s semi-final.

In previous encounters at the Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast and Congo DR have played competitively, with their last meeting in 2017 ending in a draw. Congo DR aims to break their winless streak against Ivory Coast, having lost to them in 2002.

Ivory Coast will be without key players Serge Aurier, Odilon Kossounou, and Oumar Diakite due to suspensions. However, there’s potential for Sebastien Haller and Simon Adingra to start the match, providing a boost to the team’s attack.

For Congo DR, Gael Kakuta’s injury status remains uncertain, posing a challenge for Desabre’s lineup. Additionally, four players risk suspension if they receive bookings in the semi-final.

Unless Kakuta recovers, Congo DR may field an unchanged lineup for the crucial match against Ivory Coast. Both teams are determined to secure a spot in the final, setting the stage for an intense and thrilling encounter.
