Zambia midfielder Ireen Lungu exudes confidence as she anticipates a double victory for the Copper Queens over Ghana in their upcoming Olympic Games qualifier.

Arriving in Ghana on Tuesday with the rest of the Zambian team for the final round of qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games, Lungu remains steadfast in her belief in the team’s capabilities.

Having previously represented Africa at the prestigious multi-sport competition, Lungu asserts her confidence ahead of Friday’s showdown in Accra.

“Everyone is ready, and we have been pushing ourselves. The league has helped us a lot, so I think everyone is in good shape. The first match in Ghana is important because if we get the three points, then we are good to go. Our aim is to win in Ghana,” stated the Kazakhstan-based player.

Acknowledging the pressure, Lungu emphasizes that their primary focus is securing maximum points. “Pressure is there but the only pressure is to carry home the maximum three points. That is the pressure that we have,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Black Queens of Ghana are vying for their maiden appearance at the Olympic Games. Under the guidance of Swiss trainer Nora Hauptle, Ghana’s women’s national team has displayed commendable form, setting the stage for an electrifying clash with Zambia.
