Marc Brys, a Belgian coach, emerges as a serious contender for the vacant Black Stars coaching position, as reported by Sportsworldghana.com on Wednesday.
Sportsworldghana.com reported that, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) faces increasing pressure from the government to appoint Brys ahead of the upcoming international friendlies against Uganda and Nigeria.
While the GFA’s preferred candidate, Otto Addo, is still negotiating his contract with Borussia Dortmund, Brys’s name gains traction as a potential alternative.
Concerns linger within the association about the repercussions if Addo fails to produce results, akin to his predecessor Milovan Rajevac’s disappointing second stint with the team.
A seasoned coach with over two decades of experience, the 61-year-old Brys has earned recognition for crafting successful teams, despite having won only one major trophy – the Belgian Cup in 2005 with Beerschot AC.
Brys boasts an extensive coaching portfolio, having managed clubs across Europe and Asia, including FC Eindhoven, Germinal Beerschot, Mouscron, Sint Truiden, Al-Raed, Den Bosch, KV Mechelen, Najran, and most recently, OH Leuven.
Although Brys falls slightly short of the GFA’s initial criterion of 15 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of success, his vast expertise and active pursuit of the role keep him in contention.
Sources close to Sportsworldghana.com reveal that Brys is presently in Ghana, actively lobbying for the coaching position.
Whether the GFA opts to give serious consideration to Brys or maintains its preference for Addo’s return remains uncertain, especially considering Addo’s previous success in qualifying Ghana for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The upcoming friendly matches against Uganda and Nigeria could serve as a crucial test for the Black Stars’ new coaching setup, regardless of who ultimately assumes the helm.
